Welcome to the second edition of our newsletter for 2020/21
What a year it has been so far!
We are incredibly proud of our trainees. They positively and passionately continue to support their schools, learning on-the-job alongside their experienced mentors. Not only are they learning how to teach in
classrooms, but they are also getting this whole new set of skills for teaching online and ensuring children learn remotely during the pandemic.
A huge thank you to all our partner schools for supporting our new teachers.
During these challenging times, it’s been wonderful to see our Primary trainees supporting keyworker children in
the classroom or providing remote learning to the children at home.
At Armfield Academy, trainees Rebekah Brimelow and Georgina Luke have really made a positive contribution to learning. Their efforts have been recognised by their mentors who have seen both trainees go above and beyond with their planning, resources and support.
Rebekah has enhanced her classroom by creating a continuous provision area linked to magnets and pirates. This area has been very popular with the children and increased their understanding of the topic.
Georgina has thought of different ways to use technology to support remote learning at home. She has created videos to keep her children motivated and increase their participation. Her phonics aerobic videos have made learning both active and fun!
Our primary programme is delivered by the wonderful Dina and Greg
from Breck Primary School. You can contact them on SCITT@breck.lancs.sch.uk
Our Professional Studies sessions continue safely in our virtual classrooms. We are very grateful to everyone who has given their time and expertise to deliver sessions so far this year.
Our secondary trainees have just started their qualification to become specialist teachers of PSHE and for the first time this year, we are also including Trauma Training on our curriculum. A huge thank you to Jane Leigh and the team at Better Start for providing us with this.
As you may have seen on our social media platforms, we are expanding our secondary and post 16 provision to create a hub in Liverpool. This is a really exciting opportunity to work in partnership with a group of 3 schools who together make the Northern Schools Trust. We are already recruiting for September 2021 start dates so if you want to be involved, or you have contacts in Liverpool, please get in touch!
