Who can apply?

Training is open to anyone who might have an interest in becoming a teacher and has a degree and the right to work in the UK. You might be:

• A recent graduate looking for the first step in your career

• A teaching assistant looking to transition into teaching your own class

• Looking for a completely new career path

We welcome candidates of all ages, from all backgrounds, and with all types of experience. To be eligible, you will need:

• An undergraduate degree, generally 2:2 or above, or equivalent

• A GSCE grade 4/C or above in English and Maths, or equivalent

• Primary school trainees will also need a GSCE grade 4/C or above in science, or equivalent

If you don’t meet the eligibility criteria but would still like to train as a teacher, please get in touch and we can discuss how we may be able to support you.

We also welcome applicants who are in the final year of their degree and can offer conditional placements, dependent on successful completion of degree or any other pending qualifications.

All offers made will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and a health and capacity to teach check.

Cost

Depending on your subject choice, you may be eligible for a tax-free bursary or scholarship which you won’t have to pay back.

You must be eligible for student finance to receive a bursary or scholarship. The only exception to this is if you are training to teach physics or languages. Additionally, you cannot receive both a teaching bursary and a scholarship. You also cannot receive a bursary or scholarship if you’re on a salaried teacher training course.

Bursaries for 2026 to 2027

  • £29,000 in chemistry, computing, mathematics and physics
  • £20,000 in design and technology and languages (including ancient languages)
  • £5,000 in biology and geography

Applicants may be eligible for a bursary if they have 1st, 2:1, 2:2, PhD, or master’s degree.

Scholarships available are:

  • £31,000 for chemistry, computing and physics
  • £22,000 for French, German and Spanish (no other languages)

Scholarships are usually available to applicants with a 1st, 2:1 or master’s degree or a PhD, though, in exceptional circumstances, they may be awarded to a graduate with a 2:2 and significant relevant experience.

All our programmes are unsalaried, however, you will be able to apply for a tuition fee and maintenance loan from Student Finance England and you may also be entitled to a tax-free bursary.

You can apply for a Tuition Fee Loan and Maintenance Loan if your course starts on or after 1 August 2026.

  • Tuition Fee Loan: The Tuition Fee Loan is £9,535 and will be paid directly to us. You must pay it back.
  • Maintenance Loan for living costs:  You may have to give details of your household income. The loan is paid directly into your bank account at the start of term. You have to pay the loan back.
